Facebook Challenge Day 3

It's already day 3 of the Facebook Challenge and I admit I'm a little late in the day getting this up. To recap, we created a content calendar on Day 1 (more to come on that over the next few days!) and yesterday we had a go at questions that encourage a one word answer posed in the format: What's one word to describe [add something interesting here!]. If this sounds cryptic, jump on to the Social Franchising Facebook page and check it out for yourself.

Today, day 3 of the challenge, I'd like you to personalise your Facebook page by adding a welcome tab. A welcome page is the first thing any new visitors to your Facebook page will see. It is an opportunity to tell these potential fans a little bit about what your page is about and to entice them to click the "Like"  button.

There are many different apps you can use to easily add a custom welcome tab to your Facebook page. A Google search will bring up a range of different options for you to try. A couple of easy to use Welcome tabs I've used include Pagelever and Pagemodo. Check them out, they provide templates and easy to use instructions you can use to get your Welcome tab up in no time at all!

If you're wondering what content you should put on your Welcome tab, I'd suggest the following:
  • Ask potential fans to "Like" your page.
  • Give reasons why they should like your page - tell them what's in it for them. Have you got special fan offers, useful information on your industry, news, tips, etc.
  • Provide an introduction to your business - use photos and a short welcome message.
  • Don't forget to add your contact details and tell them about other ways they can connect with you.
Here is my Facebook landing page using Pagemodo. What do you think?

Day 1: Set up a Facebook content calendar
Facebook Challenge: Day 1

On day 1 of the 'Something New Everyday Facebook Challenge', I'm setting up a Facebook content calendar. This "calendar" is essentially a spreadsheet where I can keep track and plan upcoming posts as well as keep a record of past posts.

I've set my calendar up in a Google spreadsheet as I like the idea of being able to access it no matter where I am so if I get an idea for a new post, I can pop it in on the run. It doesn't matter what you use for your calendar - Excel, a Word document, a notebook or even a whiteboard if you prefer. Take your pick and let's get started!

I've started with 8 columns for my Facebook content calendar. If I feel it is necessary I might add to this down the track but the column headings I'm starting with are:
  1. Date of post
  2. Time of post
  3. Type of post eg. Question, Quote, Photo
  4. Content/Message
  5. No. of Likes
  6. No. of comments
  7. No. of shares
  8. Total no. of fans

Setting up your Facebook content calendar is easy. Simply put these headings across the top of your spreadsheet/page. Over the next few weeks we'll be filling in your calendar so don't worry about it looking empty right now.

Today's Facebook Challenge task should take you less than 5 minutes to do so don't delay, set it up now. Good luck!

No more excuses, its time to put that Facebook marketing plan in place

I don't know about you but I've been neglecting my Facebook business page for far too long now. I have a small business Facebook page which is slowly increasing its fans. Unfortunately, I don't regularly post to the page, my Facebook marketing strategy needs to be reviewed and updated for the coming year and right now, I must confess that I have no idea what type of content interests my fans.

My excuse is I'm busy with other things and although I actually have lots of things to post to the page, I have no structure around my posting so I often think about it late at night and then decide its too late to post now so I'll save this post for tomorrow. However, often, tomorrow comes and the same thing happens and I don't get around to updating my fans.

It's certainly a case of "a builders house is always in a state of disrepair" as I'm certainly doing everything right on the Facebook pages I manage and am involved with for other businesses but alas, my own Facebook page is certainly in need of a bit of love and attention.

So this weekend I came up with a plan for my Facebook marketing. I'm sure this idea isn't new but that doesn't matter, the main thing is I have a goal of improving my Facebook marketing and this is what I'm going to do:

  1. Develop a Facebook content calendar to forward plan my activity on Facebook.
  2. Really try to get an understanding of what my fans want by keeping track of what works and what doesn't.
  3. Try something new every day with the goal of either increasing my fans or improving engagement on my page.
  4. Share what I'm doing on my Facebook page so my fans can also benefit by trying some of these things themselves.
